Ombudsman Function

The PhD Student Ombudsmen are two PhD students employed by the Department of Physics and Astronomy to help and support the PhD students in times of need. All issues, great or small, personal or general, are welcome and handled with strict confidentiality. The ombudsmen are there to help the PhD students with any issues regarding financing, terms of employment, harassment, discrimination and problems with the supervisor or colleagues. The ombudsmen will never disclose any information or details unless given prior permission by the PhD student in question. The ombudsmen are also responsible for organizing welcome lunches for newly admitted PhD students, and organizing and chairing the PhD Student Council. The PhD Student Council

The council gathers PhD student representatives from all divisions at the Department of Physics and Astronomy, as well as representatives from relevant boards on Department and Faculty level. The purpose of the council is to guard the interests of the PhD students at the department, and to arrange social activities. Meetings with all PhD students at the department are arranged once per semester.

Information about health and work enviorment

As a PhD student you have access to both the Student health care (Studenthälsa, where you can go to physicians or psychologists or take courses in e.g. stress management) and Occupational health care (Företagshälsovård). Företagshälsovård is available to employees at Uppsala University, and the three first visits to either physicians or psychologists are for free.
