There's a continuous increase in using permanent magnets for various technological applications. The performance of modern permanent magnets is greatly enhanced by the presence of rare-earth elements, Nd, Sm, Pr, in the magnetic material. However, these elements are critical raw materials, and their scarcity greatly increased the price of permanent magnets.

Recently, many efforts are devoted to the search of performant non rare-earth magnetic materials. In this presentation I will succinctly describe the use of genetic algorithms method in predicting magnetic materials and show some results obtained within the European project NOVAMAG. This work was done in collaboration with Materials Theory group from Uppsala.
