In the solemn Act of Conferment, the new Doctors received their symbols of honour: a diploma, and a laurel wreath. The laurel leaves used in making the laurel wreaths are still picked from a laurel tree which is found in the Botanical Garden and has survived since the time of Linnaeus.

Uppsala residents recognise the day because cannon salutes are fired in the morning and during the Conferment Ceremony. The festivities continued into the evening, with a banquet in the Hall of State at Uppsala Castle. Nearly 700 people took part in the Conferment Banquet which included the new doctors, jubilee and honorary doctors, honorary guests, teachers and staff at the university, and families.

The ceremony was held in the cathedral for the first time since 1927, when the university celebrated its 450 year jubilee, because of the ongoing extensive renovations to the University Main Building.
