Due to wave nature of particles, thermodynamic state functions become size and shape dependent. These dependencies lead to novel effects which appear in confined systems at nano-scale. Anisotropic gas pressure in anisometric domains, diffusion driven by size difference, thermosize and thermoshape effects, discreteness of macroscopic thermodynamic properties are some of them. By considering the simplest problem, quantum size and shape effects on thermodynamic properties and their corollaries are discussed in a nutshell. At the beginning of my talk, I will give also some brief information about R&D activities in Istanbul Technical University Energy Institute where I come from.
