Seminar: The NESSA neutron facility: status and plans
- Location: Ångströmlaboratoriet, Lägerhyddsvägen 1 Å80115
- Lecturer: Alexander Prokofiev and Erik Andersson Sundén
- Contact person: Alexander Prokofiev
The NESSA facility (NEutron Source in UppSAla), being constructed in the FREIA hall, will be based on a state-of-the-art DT neutron generator. The long-term goal for the facility is to become a national research infrastructure, partly filling the gap created through the closure of neutron beam facilities and research reactors in the Nordic countries. Research uses of the facility will include development and testing of detectors and materials, development of techniques for monitoring of reactors and fuel composition, studies of radiation effects in electronics, nuclear data measurements, benchmarking of particle transport codes, and more. The facility will as well provide a basis for maintaining and enhancing competence and education in the field.
The talk will provide an update on the project status and time plan, a description of the neutron generator to be installed, the radiation protection concept, and other information of relevance for the facility development and usage.
After the seminar: Coffee, snacks and possibilities to mingle will be offered at ~15:00 in room Å14167.
