Core monitoring systems for the fast reactor ASTRID

ASTRID (Advanced Sodium Technical Reactor for Industrial Demonstration) is a future sodium cooled fast reactor of Generation IV, to be built in France.

Safety is of prime importance in a nuclear reactor, and our contribution is core monitoring systems. Designing a robust monitoring system for a Gen IV reactor is a challenge because of the complexity of the system. The goal of the project is to propose a reliable neutron flux monitoring system from startup to full power. This system should permit reactivity control and power level monitoring as well as detect possible deviations that could cause local melting accidents if unchecked.
